Welcome to Your SmartBins Community Upgrade
Your apartment complex is upgrading to an intelligent smart bin network to meet mandatory EU recycling targets, eliminate communal waste contamination, and keep bin stores clean and secure.
- • 65% EU Target: We must recover recyclables to meet Irish EPA standards.
- • Lower Service Fees: Clean segregation prevents contamination surcharge fines on your OMC.
- • Pest & Odor Prevention: Electronic lids ensure animals and insects cannot enter.
- • Kitchen Food Caddy: Countertop caddy for easy food scrap sorting.
- • Compost Liners: 100% certified biodegradable liners (liners optional).
- • Clear General Bags: Mandatory clear bags for Months 1 & 2.
The Golden Rule: Clean, Dry & Loose
All recyclable items in Ireland must be placed in the recycling bin loose (never in tied plastic grocery bags or black sacks) and free from food residue.
- ✓ Paper & Cardboard: Flattened boxes, egg cartons, envelopes.
- ✓ Plastic Packaging: Bottles, pots, tubs & food trays (rinsed).
- ✓ Soft Plastics: Clean plastic bags, wrappers, bubble wrap.
- ✓ Metals: Drink cans, clean food tins, biscuit tins.
- ✓ Cartons: Milk and juice Tetra Pak cartons.
- ✕ NO Food Residue or Liquids (Rinse containers first).
- ✕ NO Greasy Pizza Boxes (Place in General or Brown bin).
- ✕ NO Black Plastic Bags (Must be loose).
- ✕ NO Nappies, Wipes, or Polystyrene.
- ✕ NO Clothes or Textiles (Use charity banks).
Brown Bin: Compostable Liners or Loose
Food waste produces nutrient-rich compost and renewable biogas. All organic materials must be separated from general household rubbish.
- ✓ Meat, Poultry & Fish: Including all bones and shells.
- ✓ Fruit & Vegetables: Raw, cooked, and peelings.
- ✓ Bread, Rice & Pasta: Leftovers, cereal, crusts.
- ✓ Coffee Grounds & Tea Bags: Paper tea bags & coffee filters.
- ✓ Plate Scrapings & Eggshells.
- ✕ NO Standard Plastic Bags or Clingfilm.
- ✕ NO Food Packaging, Plastic Trays, or Stickers.
- ✕ NO Cooking Oil, Grease, or Liquids.
- ✕ NO Pet Waste or Cat Litter (Put in General bin).
- ✕ NO Nappies or Baby Wipes.
True Residual Rubbish • Clear Bags Mandate
General waste is for items that cannot be recycled or composted. To verify clean segregation during kickoff, clear transparent bags must be used for Months 1 & 2.
- ✓ Hygiene Products: Disposable nappies, sanitary pads, wipes.
- ✓ Bathroom Waste: Toothpaste tubes, cotton buds, floss.
- ✓ Household Items: Vacuum dust bags, floor sweepings, pet waste.
- ✓ Heavily Soiled Materials: Greasy food wrappers, dirty foil.
- ✓ Broken Glass: Wrapped securely in newspaper for safety.
- ✕ NO Clean Recyclables (Paper, cardboard, cans, bottles).
- ✕ NO Food Scraps (Use the Brown Food Bin).
- ✕ NO Electricals, Cables, or Batteries.
- ✕ NO Construction Rubble, Paint, or Chemicals.
- ✕ NO Bulky Items or Mattresses.
Opening & Locking Smart Bins • Video Demonstration
SmartBins are electronically latched to keep shared areas secure and clean. Watch the video demonstration below and follow the 4 simple steps to unlock and lock the bins.
Press the wake button on the smart lock unit to activate the card sensor.
Hold your RFID key card / fob against the reader until it chirps to confirm.
The latch releases for 30 seconds. Lift the lid and place your waste inside.
Lower the lid firmly until it clicks locked to seal odors and block pests.
Forgot your key card or waiting for delivery? You can always request a bin to be opened remotely for 30 seconds (e.g. message "Unlock Bin 1" or "Open Food Waste") via any of these 4 channels:
- • No Bulky Dumping: Leaving furniture, mattresses, duvets, or floor bags is strictly prohibited. 24/7 CCTV active.
- • WEEE & Batteries: Return old electronics, vapes, and batteries to electrical stores for FREE. Never in bins!
